Labor Day weekend is here, and there is plenty happening around Pensacola and the surrounding communities. From First Friday art events and live music to markets, comedy, racing, family activities, and the annual Pensacola Beach Bathtub Races, this is a great weekend to get out and enjoy the area.

Friday, September 4
First Fridays Art Walk

Leanne Morgan: The Time of Our Lives Tour

Rock4Vets 5K

Helpful hint: Go early for the best selection and cooler temperatures. Palafox Street is currently affected by construction, but the market notes that surrounding streets have free parking.
Fall Flea Market & Craft Show

Helpful hint: This is one of the events I'd put at the top of the list. Get there early, grab a spot near the water, and expect crowds. Pensacola Beach traffic can be especially heavy on Labor Day weekend.
End of Summer Fireworks Cruise

Barney Barnhill Memorial at Southern Raceway

If racing is more your speed, head to Milton for the inaugural Barney Barnhill Memorial. The two-night Labor Day weekend event features Crate Racin' USA Late Models with a $10,000-to-win feature, local divisions, and a Sunday fireworks show.

A Little Local Advice…
Labor Day weekend is one of those weekends where the destination is usually easier than the traffic getting there.
If you're heading to Pensacola Beach, give yourself plenty of extra time and avoid making tight dinner or event reservations immediately after another activity. Traffic can change quickly, especially later in the afternoon.
For downtown Pensacola, parking can also fill up quickly around the bigger events. My advice is to park once and walk whenever possible rather than moving your car between activities.
And, of course, keep an eye on the weather. September is still very much summer on the Gulf Coast, and afternoon thunderstorms are always a possibility.

One of my favorite things about living in the Pensacola area is that you don't have to wait for a major festival to find something fun to do.
Whether you're in Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, Gulf Breeze, Pace, Milton, or Cantonment, there are always local businesses, community organizations, markets, restaurants, and venues giving people a reason to get out and explore.
And if you're considering moving to the area, attending local events is actually one of my favorite ways to get to know a community. You get to see the neighborhoods, meet local people, discover restaurants, and experience what everyday life here really feels like.
Because finding the right home is important, but finding the right community is just as important.
